The Tiburon Ridge Vision
We envision joining the Martha Property with adjacent open space lands and possibly the nearby Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies to create a 292 contiguous acre regional conservation area. We propose to call it “Tiburon Ridge” – a land of breathtaking natural beauty, a vital eco-system and rich local history. The Marin County Open Space District, which currently manages the adjacent lands, has agreed to manage Tiburon Ridge, while the Romberg Center would be managed as it is now – through San Francisco State University. In other words, management and public enjoyment of these lands would remain unchanged.
Our “Tiburon Ridge” vision – and the opportunity to preserve and connect 292 total acres for the cost of 110 – has enormous appeal to the major donors and foundations whose support we need to acquire the Martha property. We believe this will energize a capital campaign and lead to a successful conservation sale – so that the Martha property and surrounding lands can be protected for everyone and forever.
To date, our vision has the support of Congressman Jared Huffman, Marin County Supervisor Kate Sears, the Trust for Public Land, former GGNRA Superintendent Frank Dean and the Marin Conservation League. The Trust for Public Land has expressed a strong interest in protecting the property. Support has also come from a host of Marin County officials, local groups and land conservation leaders.
There is virtually unanimous agreement that the loss of the Martha Property to development would be a tragedy - for the Town, the County and visitors from around the world. We must save this magnificent land.
And, together, we will.
